               The               LACCD's               (laccd.edu)               started               in               1932               and               encompasses               882               square               miles               in               Los               Angeles.

It               is               the               home               of               nine               diverse               community               colleges               in               the               Los               Angeles               area.

LACCD               serves               over               three               million               students               from               every               walk               of               life.

Many               under               served               populations               get               their               educational               start               at               one               of               these               nine               institutions.

               Established               in               1979,               Mission               College               serves               the               communities               of               Sylmar,               Pacoima,               Granada               Hills               and               North               Hills.

Besides               the               obvious               commitment               to               educating               students,               the               school               has               another               mission.

               Many               of               the               areas               surrounding               the               school               are               home               to               at               risk               students,               so               Mission               College               has               started               a               program               called               Gear               Up.

The               program               has               helped               tutor               more               than               a               thousand               students               and               more               importantly               sets               an               example               for               younger               students               on               the               importance               of               a               college               education.

CSUN               has               one               of               the               top               teaching               schools               in               the               country.


               The               students               at               Mission               get               their               start               by               helping               others               in               their               own               community.

               Los               Angeles               Valley               College               www.lavc.edu,               is               located               in               Van               Nuys               and               was               established               in               1949.

On               opening               day               there               were               439               students.

Today               that               enrollment               exceeds               17,000               students.

Valley               College               is               also               home               to               the               Valley               College               Historical               Museum,               which               documents               San               Fernando               Valley               history.

Valley               College               is               also               home               to               the               Monarch               Stadium,               which               has               the               only               10-lane               Mondo               Track               in               California."               This               is               just               the               begining               of               the               growth               and               improvement               planned               at               LAVC.
