    There               are,               of               course               many               public               institutions               of               higher               learning               that               have               solid               academic               reputations               .

    Schools               like               Rutgers               in               New               Jersey,               the               University               of               California               at               San               Diego,               UMass               and               UConn               might               come               to               mind.

    But               working               its               way               to               the               top               of               the               college               rankings               among               public               colleges               and               universities               is               the,               very               much               under               the               radar,               New               College               of               Florida.

    Back               Story,               Please.

    To               be               honest               New               College               of               Florida               isn't               brand               new.

    In               fact               the               college               was               operating               as               an               independent               private               school               back               in               the               1960's               .

    Eventually               it               was               absorbed               by               the               State               of               Florida               University               system               and               became               a               part               of               the               University               of               South               Florida,though               it               still               maintained               a               rather               separate               identity               and               campus.

    It               was               not               until               2001               that               New               College               of               Florida               officially               was               launched               as               the               11th               member               of               the               State               of               Florida               University               System.

    In               that               year               New               College               cut               ties               and               branched               out               on               its               own               as               an               totally               separate               college               within               the               public               college               system               in               the               State               of               Florida.
                   Part               of               what               distinguishes               New               College               of               Florida               is               that               in               addition               to               having               its               own               administration               and               board               of               trustees,               a               vestige               of               the               original               local               foundation               that               built               New               College               back               in               the               '60's               continues               to               exist               as               New               College               Foundation               and               continues               to               provide               the               kind               of               endowment               that               allows               for               many               scholarships               and               small               class               sizes.

    The               school               offers               the               same               low               tuition               that               other               state               facilities               offer               and               is               able               to               maintain               its               own               original               vision               of               a               school               that               teaches               for               the               future               through               funds               furnished               by               the               Foundation,               in               essence               having               it               both               ways.
                   New               College               Academics.

    Certainly               the               most               enticing               aspect               you               will               discover               in               any               review               of               New               College               of               Florida               is               the               excellent               and               unique               academic               structure               provided               here.

    Yes               this               is               a               Liberal               Arts               College               that               offers               traditional               majors               in               25               fields.

    But               this               is               a               school               that               teaches               in               its               own               unique               style.

    Students               work               directly               with               faculty               to               map               out               the               direction               in               which               they               wish               their               studies               to               proceed,               frame               projects               and               papers               together               and               grow               intellectually               as               a               result               of               this               cooperative               form               of               learning.
                   The               student               to               professor               ratio               is               an               excellent               11:1               and               students               find               much               of               their               work               is               done               in               small               groups               with               professorial               direction.

    An               astounding               100%               of               the               professors               at               New               College               have               doctoral               degree               or               the               terminal               degree               offered               in               their               field               of               expertise.

    This               guarantees               for               excellent               instruction               and               academic               sharing.

    There               is               at               New               College               of               Florida               a               very               private               school               feel               on               an               amazingly               public               school               campus.
                   Students               work               on               a               contract               basis               and               need               to               complete               the               conditions               of               seven               contracts               over               the               course               of               the               four               years               at               New               College.

    The               year               is               arranged               in               two               four               month               semester,               interrupted               by               a               single               month               when               independent               and               project               oriented               work               takes               place.

    All               student               work               is               evaluated               without               use               of               a               grading               system.

    Instead               students               receive               a               very               thorough               narrative               report               from               professors               which               encourages               and               supports               student               growth               and               improvement               .

    Located               some               50               miles               South               of               Tampa               in               the               city               of               Sarasota,               New               College               of               Florida               has               an               idea               location.

    Of               course               you               will               have               to               be               disciplined               to               keep               to               the               books,               but               when               study               time               is               over               you               are               in               a               beautiful               seaside               location.
                   Going               to               New               College               of               Florida               puts               you               in               a               very               unique               academic               sphere,               but               it               also               puts               you               in               a               very               special               place.

    The               City               of               Sarasota               has               been               named               by               Money               Magazine               as               the               top               small               city               in               which               to               live               in               the               entire               country.

    That's               in               part               because               the               city               offers               great               music,               theater,arts               and               of               course               sensational               public               beaches.

    If               you               had               to               choose               a               city               to               live               in               while               you               attended               any               college,               Sarasota               would               certainly               be               in               the               running.

    Add               to               that               the               chance               to               attend               a               great               school               at               bargain               rates               and               you               start               to               see               a               real               gem               of               an               educational               option.

    When               a               review               of               New               College               of               Florida               reveals               such               idea               learning               and               living               conditions               the               cynic               in               us               all               usually               takes               over               to               ask               so               what's               wrong               here,               what               am               I               missing.

    Well               not               much.

    If               anything,               some               students               may               find               the               small               total               numbers               in               the               classroom               and               on               campus               too               small.

    If               you               really               want               a               large               campus               with               lots               of               action               and               lots               of               bodies,               then               perhaps               this               isn't               the               spot               for               you               .

    You               will               find               plenty               of               student               activities               at               New               College               but               they               are               on               a               smaller               scale               than               you               will               find               at               other               public               institutions               with               larger               student               enrollment.

    Activities               tend               to               surface               from               student               interest               rather               than               being               imposed               by               an               activities               calendar.
                   Sports               are               for               fun,               health               and               interaction               here.

    This               is               not               a               school               that               fosters               competitive               athletic               programs               .

    There               are               athletic               facilities               for               students               to               use               and               enjoy               but               if               your               are               looking               for               intercollegiate               athletics               in               Florida               there               are               ten               other               state               operated               facilities               you               might               want               to               check               in               to.
                   What's               missing               at               New               College               of               Florida               can               be               a               deal               breaker               for               some               students,               especially               for               those               who               are               looking               for               a               highly               traditional               college               experience               with               lots               of               high               powered               on               campus               activities,               big               time               interscholastic               athletics               and               minimal               course               loads.

    That               clearly               is               not               what               is               going               to               be               happening               at               New               College               of               Florida.
                   The               best               review               of               New               College               of               Florida               is               of               course               the               review               done               by               the               individual               student.

    But               encouraging               students               to               at               least               consider               New               College               of               Florida               are               the               rave               reviews               offered               by               a               variety               of               national               magazines               who               put               New               College               among               the               Top               Five               public               colleges               in               the               nation               for               the               product               and               price               they               offer               to               incoming               students.

    Now               that               should               get               your               attention.

    However               it               is               known               that               many               junior               high               schools               require               an               entrance               exam               but               they               are               usually               private               schools.

    Brooklyn               friends               school               It               is               a               K               -               12               school               that               has               a               history               of               prestige               dating               back               to               1867.

    As               a               private               school               admission               to               this               school               isn't               cheap.With               tuition               of               $30,700               you               can               where               they               get               the               money               have               a               homework               help               center               and               give               music               lessons.

    This               school               known               for               having               extravagant               extracurricular               activities               such               as               their               volunteering               service               and               overnight               international               trips               to               Europe               and               more.
